Saracens consumer law solicitors will advise you on numerous consumer issues, including goods and services bought from a shop, business or via the internet. Our solicitors are aware of the trend in internet shopping which has become more popular in recent times and the law that relates to it.

If a problem arises with goods that you have purchased, you will need to know your rights are and what can be done immediately. Our solicitors are able to offer a step by step guide through the legal procedures involved in the satisfactory resolution of a dispute.

Our solicitors at Saracens are able to offer advice on all areas of consumer law, including:

Internet shopping:
If you buy goods from the internet and they are not delivered in 30 days you can reject the goods as they have not been delivered within a reasonable time. This stems from the law relating to internet banking as it is governed by the distance selling regulation.

Erroneous pricing:
For example if a trader falsely advertises an item at a lower price when in fact it has never been sold at the higher price in the first place, or, fails to show any hidden extra costs.

False claims:
For example, if a trader has written something which is false about goods or services, he may have committed a criminal offence.

Estimates or quotations:
You should check whether the service you are enquiring about is an estimate or a quotation. Usually, an estimate is an approximated price and a quotation is a set price. It is therefore advisable that you understand what you are asking for and that you have this recorded in writing.

Goods on order from a shop:
If you agree a date for an item to be delivered to you and the seller fails to deliver on time you may be able to reject the goods.

Internet shopping and selling has grown rapidly with most households in Britain 'going online' and the general public has far greater access to the internet. Thus, we have trained our solicitors to deal with the new legislation in order to safeguard the rights of the consumer. Our solicitors are up to date on all legislation, common and case law as well as European trading regulations and can offer advice on all these scenarios and many others for the modern day consumer.

Important
A recent survey estimated that almost 17 million adults in the UK have legal expense insurance - many of them without being aware of it. This is because it is often included free or added to their:

  • Car insurance
  • House contents insurance
  • Buildings insurance
  • Travel insurance
  • Pet Insurance
  • Other insurance type policies

  • Sometimes it is added irrespective of whether the policy is held in their own name, or that of their partner or family.

Check to see if you have this cover. It might meet your legal costs in full.

Insurers may seek to refer your case to their own panel of solicitors. However, insured people have a legal right to choose their own solicitor in most cases. If you require assistance on this point, we can supply it.
